Important Upgrade: MIND Version 0.5.3 & Simulator Version 0.1.2

The upgrade includes:

• MIND Version 0.5.3 Changelog:

  • Added default skill SimulatorKit, Simulator can control HEXA in realtime now!
  • Added SelectGait in hexabody API, now HEXA can run in different gait mode.
  • Accepted devices permission field in Skill’s manifest.json, see documentation for details. (Thanks @eric.jastram and @renee for discussion in post!)
  • Fixed some bugs in Explore Skill. (Thanks @DavidBerlin for feedback in post!)
  • Upgrade motors controlling algorithm, now they are more accurate.
  • Improve the stability of MIND.

• HEXA Simulator Version 0.1.2 Robot Skill - Named Simulator Kit

  • The new version of HEXA Simulator permits user to Sync HEXA with Simulator by the default Skill SimulatorKit. User can create and optimize motions in Simulator and run them on HEXA synchronously. (Special thanks @DavidBerlin and @grant.junno.)

This is an exciting update, looking forward to trying the new features!

Great to see this is non stoping to get better and better… but … I think HEXA walks slower after this MIND upgrade, right? That is terrible in my case, since I already thought it was slow before, and I know it can go faster.

I suppose it is to save battery life?

In the skills store there’s one which controls HEXA with accelerometer, it’s really really beautiful to see HEXA walking really slow, the slowest possible, and also when tilting the phone totally… it walks much faster than with the Explorer skill.

Both options are amazing… but none of them is available in the Explorer skill… HEXA just walks at medium speed… not interesting at all!

Also I would love we can control basic functions of walking and positioning HEXA inside the dance skill (or even “export” some dancing skills to Explorer skill), since it’s really a shame not being able to positioning HEXA while dancing.

Also! You took away the “cave” move from “explore” skill?

That’s really a pity. And I think each upgrade should warn the users when a feature or move is taken away, since I had great plans for that move, and now it’s gone…

You are completely correct about the HEXA’s walking speed. We did slow the speed and it is for the battery life optimization. Your suggestion about adding a speed control is also great. We will improve this part in the future versions.

We know there’s a lot of things you want the Explore and Dance Skills to have and we hope you could understand that the features for the pre-installed Skills are just a very small part of the HEXA’s possibilities. We are sure there are developers who also would like to combine Dance and Explore features, and our vision of building this development platform is allowing them to build this Skill easily. So please stay tuned and keep these suggestions coming. Make your voice heard by the community!

For your last question, we didn’t remove the cave mode. We changed the UX… please find it here.

Hallo! I’ve noticed there’s a Simulator kit also in the iphone app, as a skill. How does it work? I’ve managed to use the desktop version, but this one? How can I find documentation about it and how it works?

This skill is used to synchronize the actions written by the simulator on PC to the robot.
