[Solved] HEXA's wifi is not listed on my phone

Hi. All functions are working normally, except the camera. Based on another forum issue (#980) I suspect this has to do with the fact that I’m connecting to HEXA via my home wifi and not HEXA’s own wifi. This is the only connection mode I’ve been able to achieve, however (i.e., blue light and globe icon).

I have tried lightly pressing the power button to trigger a wifi disconnect. During the purple light I do not see any wifi networks named “HEXA-***” to connect to. After a few seconds, HEXA reconnects to my home wiki and the light goes blue.

I have tried the “restart” and “disconnect” buttons in Settings, which have produced the same behavior.

I have tried a hard press power cycle on the unit, which produced the same behavior.

I have yet to see any network wifi option named “HEXA-***”. What am I missing?

Hi. It sounds like the issue is that the HEXA is connecting to the WiFi network when you want to connect to the HEXA network. Luckily there is a way to force the HEXA to create it’s WiFi signal.

First connect to the HEXA like you would normally do on your WiFi network. After you are connected, click on the “settings” skill. Next click on “connection”. There should now be the option to “Switch to Direct Link Mode”. Hit that button.

The HEXA light should switch from blue to purple. Now look at the different WiFi networks on your device. The “HEXA-****” should be available. The password is going to be the last eight digits of the WiFi network.

Example. HEXA-000012345678. The password will be 12345678.

Sometimes you will need to restart the HEXA app in order to get the HEXA direct link mode option.

Please let me know this works or if you need anymore information!

Thank you for the response. Here are things I’ve tried:

1. “Switch to Direct Link Mode” button – this leads to a screen with instrucions: press buttom button (HEXA goes to purple), look in my wifi settings for “HEXA-****” network. But, nothing like that ever shows up. I’ve tried adjusting the timing of my search (e.g., based on when the phone attempts to lookup new networks). And I’ve tried this more than 20 times.

2. “Switch Wi-Fi” button – this shows me the list of wifi networks, but never includes HEXA. Maybe that’s expected since it’s already connected.

3. Restarting HEXA with hard press to power button. HEXA network never shows up during any stage of reboot.

I have not seen the HEXA network popup in my phone’s wifi settings at any time during any of these steps.

Is there any other information I can provide or other steps to attempt?

Is the HEXA a steady purple light or is the light flashing?

When I press “Switch to Direct Link Mode” the app goes to screen with 3-step instructions:

1. Click bottom button, wait for disconnection
2. Go to Settings > WLAN
3. The default password is the last 8 digits as illustration.

Here is how I am interpretting those steps:

1. I press the power button on the HEXA. I half-press will cause the blue light to turn black and then it turns solid purple. It stays purple for ~20 seconds. Solid, no flashing. Then is switches to flashing blue. Then solid blue as it reconnects to my home’s wifi.
2. While the light is solid purple, I check my phone’s wifi settings and look for the HEXA network. I have also tried looking at the list of networks on my laptop. I have never seen the HEXA network yet.
3. I can’t get to this step.

Thank you for the additional information. I see whats happening now. The instructions that are being displayed is assuming that there isn’t a WiFi connection close by. Unfortunately the HEXA will default connect to the WiFi connection if it is there. You will have to follow these instructions to get around the default connect.

When you click on the “Switch to Direct Link Mode” ignore the instructions and hit the button on the bottom that says “Switch to Direct Link”.

Keep the HEXA on and don’t turn off the HEXA after this point.

The HEXA light should switch from blue to a solid purple. After the HEXA has been solid purple for a few seconds, check your WiFi signals that are close by. The signal should now be there.

Please let me know if this still doesn’t work.

Ah ha! I just had to scroll the page to see the second button for “Switch to Direct Mode”. Ok. That worked.

But…

Going back to my original post, the camera on my HEXA is not displaying or storing images. The camers is functioning in terms of detecting distance, but when using the Explore Skill, I do not see an image on my screen and if I trigger a photo, nothing is sent to my phone.

I’ve tested the camera in both wifi mode (home network) and direct link (HEXA network).

Any suggestions for troubleshooting the camera?

Since everything else is working properly, I’m assuming that the wiring that goes to the camera somehow got disconnected. Luckily this should be an easy fix.

Remove the white HEXA shell. Next you will need to remove the purple shell that is connected with four screws . You will need a hex 1.5 screw driver in order to remove these screws. When you lift the purple shell, there should be 2 ribbon connections and 1 wiring connection that connects the black base of the HEXA to the HEXA purple shell. Make sure that all of these connections are tight on the base and on the HEXA head. You should test 6 different connection points. Put the screws back in and test your HEXA. The camera should work after this.

I love that you encouraged me to open it up. That’s refreshing!

So, I unscrewed the purple shell and reset the 6 connection points between the purple shell and black base. I then tried the Explore Skill in both local wifi (home network) and direct link (HEXA network) modes. Same results. No images on the phone and attempts to take photos and videos do not result in image or video files on my phone.

The UI of Explore Skill lets me record multiple videos but only take one photo, then the shutter button is no longer active. Again, regardless of mode, no images are seen or stored on the phone.

Any other suggetions?

Try using another smart phone.

I have used 3 different Android phones with my HEXAs. Two work fine for images but one (Samsung J7 Perx), although the newer phone, has trouble with images in Explore Mode.

Also, try switching the camera ON and OFF and then ON again while in Explore Mode. This seems to help the Perx but the image is unstable and easily pixelates.

You may also want to investigate your WiFi signal strength and remember Page 10 refers to not being able to connect with 5G Networks.

If this doesn’t work. Make sure that your camera ribbon cable is secure.

Lastly, if you never see an image and have tried other phones you may want to contact Vincross Technical Services regarding a replacement camera. This happened to one of my HEXAs but I was able to switch to a known good camera to validate that this was the root issue.
